The Rhodesian Ridgeback has a short, shiny coat that is typical for the breed. Along their backs, they have a distinguishing feature - hair which grown in the opposite direction, creating a "ridge," for which they're named! Intelligent, even-tempered and loyal are characteristics for these dogs. They are excellent sporting and hunting dogs. Combining the region which they are from, South Africa and Zimbabwe, along with the unique ridge of hair, creates the name of the breed - the Rhodesian Ridgeback!
