This bay American Saddlebred gelding carries his head and tail high. Truly an American breed, originating in Kentucky, the American Saddlebred is a gaited horse. Along with the standard walk, trot, canter and gallop, this breed had additional gaits - the slow gait, and rack. These allow the horse to quickly cover great distances, while being smooth and comfortable gaits to ride. Plantation owners favoured this breed for this reason. Saddleseat is the Saddlebred's main discipline.
