A unique, metallic sheen on their coats is a unique trademark of this breed, and are therefore, considered one of the most beautiful breeds of horses. Akhal-Teke horses are very similar to Arabians, is the sense that they are a very old horse breed, both originated in the desert (Akhal-Tekes are from Turkmenistan), and therefore are adaptable to harsh desert conditions with drinking very little water. In turn, this is what makes both breeds great endurance horses.
